First Captain Tranjer Rolsk comes out to ask the party their
business. When they mention mining he says no travel is allowed
to mines, Apparently they have an arrangement with the dragon,
Iceclaws. They stay off the rest of the island and pay tribute,
and he allows safe passage in and out of the village along a
defined corridor. Maanamere asks for a "permit", haggling occurs,
180gp change hands. The party may go to mines for now as long as
they don't get caught.
Crew goes drinking.
That night, Brogan borrows the gargoyle ring and summons a
gargoyle. Then Henkles, Brogan, the gargoyle and Darius head
along the trail indicated by Rolsk. It winds along the west side
of the nearest spur of Ice Peak mountain for 2.5 miles, ending at
an abandoned mine that has been boarded up. The boards are old
enough that the party can slip inside.
Behind the boards is a 10' wide tunnel that runs ENE into the
mountain for about 500' before ending in a 20'x20' room with a 10'
wide shaft in the middle. It looks like there might have been a
winch attached to the ceiling at some point in the past, but it
has long since fallen out. There is a wooden ladder leading down
into the shaft, but it looks dubious. They drop a light button
in, which falls 500' and shatters at the bottom. Darius casts
Fly and heads down to have a look.
The shaft ends in a 30'x30' room with tunnels leaving to the NW
and SW. In the room are some full sacks, an old pickaxe and a
rusty mining cart. Darius doesn't have time for a good look
though, because 3 giant spiders come out of the NW tunnel and
chase him back up the shaft. With much help from Henkles and
Brogan, the spiders are killed near the top of the shaft and
plummet to the bottom.
1950xp to Brogan, Henkles and Darius for turning spiders into
projectiles
Darius goes back down and summons a kobold to check the sacks.
They are 5 sacks of 20-30lbs of rock and corstal fragments. Each
sack is likely to yield about 10 lbs of corstal if carefully
picked through. The sacks themselves are covered in spider guts
and kinda gross, as is the room.
They head back with the sacks to report what they've learned.
