Nightal 1

Nightal 1, 1369:
    High = 40, Low = 20
    No precipitation
    Wind gusting to 10 mph from the sea.
    Partly cloudy.

    Cassie and Darius are voted in to The Watchful Order of Magists
    and Protectors and pay their dues for the next year (84gp ea. -
    through 12/30/70) in advance.

    Once again, our brave adventurers girded their loins for battle
    and headed into Undermountain in search of the minotaur chieftain.
    The full party, including Gomsha, but excepting Mrap-M'rap
    descended via the Yawning Portal (12gp from Party Treasure).
    Cassie or Ursula cast Strength on Narthan.  Gomsha, Maanamere and
    Ursula went on deep rear guard.

    The party headed directly to the Labrynth and descended towards
    its lowest point without dificulty.  As they approached the lowest
    room, a deadfall trap dropped boulders on the party, hitting
    Stewart, Dexter, Darius and Jan.  As the party was regrouping,
    Ursula and Gomsha rejoined the party.

    The party continued to explore all previously unexplored side
    passages and doors and found one that led to a 5' high room
    filled with Carrion Crawlers.  Henkles and Jan were paralyzed in
    the battle, many spells were cast, Denyae did some very effective
    shooting and Cassie expended 4 charges from her Ring of Magic
    Missiles.  The Carrion Crawlers died.  A search of their area
    revealed 20 yards of medium gray raw silk, two unfinished cloaks
    cut from the same material and an old cloak made from similar
    material , all of which were taken.
        4200xp to everyone but Maanamere for killing creepy crawlies

    While the party was searching the area and then sitting around and
    waiting for the paralysis to wear off, Maanamere came off deep
    rear guard.

    The next room they explored after that contained three patches of
    green slime, which the party managed to avoid and Narthan torched.
    A search of the room revealed a loose stone hiding 20 Gond Bells,
    which they took.

    A flight of stairs up from the slime room was the maze of
    T-intersections with painted walls where Stewart had run afoul of
    the Minotaur Shaman.  AFAL explored it fully this time and found
    what appeared to be the shamans lair.  Prominent amoung the room's
    features were some water skins, a pile of hides, a painting of the
    minotaur god and a small kobotaur (minobald?) demon that attempted
    to make a surprise attack on the party as they entered.  The demon
    attempted to use its innate darkness ability to conceal its
    attack.  This did not go over well with Stewart, who immediately
    engaged the creature in melee, despite his lack of enchanted
    weapons that could hit the thing.  Stewart took heavy damage, but
    the rest of the party was able to destroy/banish the creature
    before it killed him.

    After the creature vanished in the traditional puff of greasy
    black smoke, Stewart spent some time defacing the mural of
    Taur'raad while the rest of the party searched the room.  The only
    significant find in the room was the discovery that one of the
    hides belonged to Dedre, the Water Elementalist from Denyae's
    former party, The Band of the Blue Shield.  Denyae was
    understandably upset by this.  All the hides were taken.

    Shortly after that, the party began exploring the portion of the
    labrynth that they had not entered previously, it being beyond the
    slave quarters.  Here they found a privy, which was unfortunately
    occupied.  The occupying minotaur, who was quite upset, was slain
    and his claymore taken.  He had no money.

    After that, the party ascended a 50' flight of stairs to an oblong
    hexagonal room where 8 uniformed ogres with 3 St. Elmo's hounds
    were waiting for them.  The party decided that the ogres were a
    little too well prepared for them and backed away down the
    corridor they had come in, with the hounds and ogres, who were
    using longbows, advancing after them.  Stewart threw down caltrops
    to slow their advance, but the hounds managed to get close enough
    to use their breath attacks, felling Gomsha and badly wounding
    several others in the first strike.  As the party desperately
    returned fire, a second blast of electricity finished Gomsha and
    brought Stewart down.  Whether the lightning killed Stewart
    remains a mystery to the party, because it was enough to trigger
    the Oil of Fiery Burning and two charged chardalyn that he was
    carrying.  The first one released a Snilloc's Snowball Swarm and
    the second one, which had been miscast by Darius when it was
    charged, shrunk Stewarts remains to half size.

    Steve returned fire with a lightning bolt of his own, which caused
    the ogres to retreat somewhat and gave the rest of the party time
    to work on the hounds.  Steve followed up with a blast from his
    Staff of Phantasmal Fireballs, which finished off any monsters
    still standing.  The party hastilly looted the ogres bodies,
    collecting 43gp, 7 18/90 STR longbows, and 8 claymores.

    After that the party had pretty much had it.  They went home via
    the Yawning Portal (10gp) and spent the rest of the day licking
    their wounds.
