The party returns to undermountain with the intention of trying to
destroy the metal spiders and take all their treasure. However,
when they arrive at the Yawning Portal, they meet Ursula la Bim, a
spellcaster with some compelling talents. She is looking for a
party willing to help her track down the Shining Sons and split
the now 10000gp reward. The party agrees to take her on over
Stewart's cries of "no pets!"
Ursula spends some time gathering information in the Yawning
Portal. This gives Steve a chance to copy some key sections of
the Last Four's table map and uncovers some useful information.
They learn the general rout to the passage to the second level
that the Shining Sons were planning to take and that the Shining
Sons knew the route to this passage. They also learn that the
passage is not a simple stairway. It is described as a "labrynth"
by Alverach Windblight, a nin-man's morris fanatic who has been
there. It is unlikely that the Shining Sons knew this. They
confirmed that the Sons were looking for The Reverential Coronet
of Extroversion, and that nobody in the tavern believed in it.
Along the way, they also learn that the pit they circled to exit
Undermountain last week is one of a class of nasty pits that
magically pull you toward the bottom at high speed.
Given the information Steve managed to copy, the party decides
(while Stewart is getting a drink) to try to connect the map they
made last week after they teleported into the darkened room with
their main map and find the start of the labrinth Alverach
described.
The party enters Undermountain and with remarkable
singlemindedness, actually identifies the path between the two
mapos, even ignoring a door with orcish voices behind it at one
point. Along the way they did find a rusty hand
axe that radiated magic.
The party eventually located the room described by Alverach and
The Last Four. In it was a stairway going down, in front of which
a strange design had been painted on the floor. The design was of
a pair of horns surrounding a claymore.
Since several party members were missing, they decided to tackle
the labrinth at a later date and went home. Ursula was given a
guest room to reside in.
