AlphaGene, Inc. Appoints New VP for Business Development

Woburn, MA, April 13, 2000

AlphaGene, Inc., an integrated genomics company developing novel technologies for gene discovery to accelerate drug development for major human diseases, today announced the appointment of William D. Hough to the position of Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning.

Mr. Hough will assume the responsibility for broadening operational and business development functions of the company. Mr. Hough is a pharmaceutical marketing executive with extensive US and international experience in top pharmaceutical companies. His expertise includes the developing, managing, and revitalizing core businesses and establishing overall business marketing services.

Prior to joining AlphaGene, Mr. Hough managed his own consulting firm, Global Launch Consultants, for two years. Previously, Mr. Hough spent 12 years with Pharmacia & Upjohn in a variety of management positions, including Director of Strategic Marketing for Asia Pacific and Latin America, Vice President of Marketing for Latin America, Vice President of Marketing for the US, and General Manager of the Philippines.

Mr. Hough worked with Pfizer, Lederle, and Johnson & Johnson, in the US and overseas. He received his B.A. in Political Science from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
