Eleint 23, 1369:
Henkles & Stewart go weapon shopping. Amoung the shops they visit
are the following:
Selchoun's Sundries Shop in Sea Ward - they found a few clubs
covered in fake jewels here and some basically functional
half-sized daggers inscribed with the words "I saw Waterdeep and
Lived" or "I saw Undermountain and Lived". The proprietor assured
them that the mini daggers are not subject to Waterdeep's 1gp
"Sword Tax" on all bladed weapons.
The Old Xoblob Shop in Dock Ward - here they find some
excellent green wine made by the proprietor, Dandalus and a much
varied collection of weapons, each of which comes with a story
Dandalus is happy to share. Among the more unusual items were
"Thunderstick", a finely decorated arquebus sold to Dandalus by a
stange hippo-like humanoid in need of some fast cash and a place
to hide, a mithril hand axe with a 30 foot mithril chain and small
grappel attached to it which aparently once saved the entire
Company of the Sundered Eels from an elaborate pit trap in
Undermountain, a Harpoon, +1, +2 vs Koalinth & Kopoacinth which
the Serif's of the Sea captured from pirates, a dozen stone arrows
taken from troglodytes in Undermountain, and "Bastard", a bizzare
+2 weapon consisting of a 2' diameter steel disc with a bladed
edge all around and handles coming out of the center which
Dandalus says he has now purchased from three different wodows.
Riautar's Weaponry in Trades Ward - this shop had some of the
most finely crafted weapons Henkles or Stewart had laid eyes on,
all of them new, but nothing unusual to attract their attention.
The Riven Shield Shop in Trades Ward - this was the used
weapons shop where AFAL sold the weapons they had found in
Undermountain. The proprietor, Delborggan the Blade, told them
that a merchant had purchased all the scimitars and shortswords
the day before and had been asking about the party who brought
them in. Delborggan had given him a rough description of the few
party members he had seen but hadn't had their names or any idea
where they were staying. Among his weapons were two magical ones,
The "Horrible Hammer of War" which had vampiric regeneration
abilities and, "The Spear of Lochal" which was said to have
strange magical properties and actually be part of a larger magic
item.
Orsabba's Fine Imports in Trades Ward - this shop, which
specializes in rare imports from the far corners of Faerun had a
few unusual polearms from the far east and a strange eastern short
sword which they were told was called "Wackysushi".
The Market in Castle Ward - this is Waterdeep's huge open-air
marketplace, where it's said "If you can't find it anywhere else
in the North, you'll find it here." At the Market, they
encountered several "treasures" including the "Pole-o-Matic" - a
glaive whose blade was a detachable longsword, "The Sword of
Secrets" - a longsword that the seller swore on the grave of his
mother's only child was a magic weapon of great power whose
enchantments included the ability to apear normal to detection
spells, and "an interesting stone-headed mace" which a used weapon
vendor showed them when he learned that they were interested in
unusual weapons. Stewart recognized the mace-head as being made
from chardalyn.
Henkles inquired about the mithril axe and Bastard, but both were
way out of his price range. He asked about the Wakysushi and found
that he could afford it, so he bought it (DM forgets the price, but
it was deducted from his sheet).
Stewart had Narthandarkanas look at the chardalyn-headed mace, but
Narthan could only confirm that it wasn't an enchanted weapon and
was likely to break if used. Stewart asked about the price, but by
then he had alerted the merchant that it might be valuable, so he
asked for 800gp.
Some of the party went with Radomagar to see two warehouses, one
in Dock Ward near South Ward, and the other in Trades Ward near
the Caravan Court. Neither was particularly attractive to the
party considering the price. During discussion that night, the
party decided to look into leasing Fair Winds for 3 years for some
reduced fixed rate.
