Kythorn 28

Kythorn 28, 1369:

    Amidin Brightsmile introduces Steve to Dario, a man dressed in grey
    monks robes who explains that he is a member of the Heralds - a
    quasi-secret organization dedicated to the preservation of history
    and geneologies throughout Faerun (the entire Forgotten Realms).
    He asks to see Steve's documentation of the Song of the North and
    offers to buy it for 1000gp.  Steve is thinking about it.
    
    Devlin casts Identify, on his belt dagger and Hahrvees.  He learns
    that they are both magic items that were created by Morgath the
    Unstable, that both confer some moderate bonus to hit, but none to
    damage, that their belts act as lesser items of protection when
    the daggers are sheathed, and that both say "DOOM!" when they hit.

    The party decides to have Darius and Elizabeth try some Identify
    spells, since they'll be able to redo any failures when they go up
    in level in a few days.  Elizabeth Rose fails her rolls on Silver
    Strike, Binky and the copper flask with a warrior on it, but
    learns that Dexter's leather thong is a magic snare that can be
    set with the command word "convolute".  Darius casts Identify,
    fails his roll on Silver Strike, but learns that Binky will reveal
    a message to anyone staring at it's blade when it is in the
    presence of three or more supremely powerful magic items.  He also
    learns that it will cause the users primary weapon to sparkle when
    it hits undead or enchanted creatures.  He failed his last roll on
    Binky.

    A brief discussion of Binky's secret message results in the
    following revelations:
        - The only place in Silverymoon where the party could expect to
          find such a concentration of powerful items is in the Crypt
          of the High Mages, where each High Mage of Silverymoon is
          laid to rest with his individualy enchanted staff of office.
        - The Crypt of the High Mages is a heavilly warded sanctuary
          located on the lowest (fourth) level of Aulustriel's Palace,
          perhaps the most heavilly magically protected fortress in
          the North.
        - Only the current High Mage, and familly members of the
          deceased are allowed access to the Crypt.
        - Dexter gets his unusual eyes from Ederan "Catseye" Nharimlur,
          the third High Mage of Silverymoon - whom he is descended
          from on his mother's side. :->

    Word gets out that Aulustrial of Silverymoon will be travelling to
    Everlund for discussions with the Council of Elders.  Rumors start
    to circulate that this may go beyond an alliance to the formation
    of an actual nation.
