Tarsakh 21, 1370: High = 40, Low = 20 (J from GJO) No precipitation Wind gusting to 35 mph from the prevailing direction. Overcast. That morning, Darius used all of his Cure Light Wounds spells, Brogan used every cure spell except for one Cure Light Wounds and Dexter did the same. Some people still had minor wounds after that.Darius then began training to 8th level Wild Mage, to be completed on the evening of the 30th.
The next day is the auction. When we got there, we handed over our weapons for the reception, where Deringa got cornered by her parents and older sister, and dragged away. I think we're down a half-share party member. This means we also need to rethink security for the Coronet, etc. Staric's parents were there too, but they studiously ignored us. Maraba J made a point of asking us about daggers. After a bout of various people stomping on other party members' feet, Henkles said "We'd be glad to discuss daggers later, in different circumstances", (or words to that effect), and she said she'd be in touch.
Steve bought a bidder number. The rest of the party rearmed and went up to the balcony to guard.
500xp to Brogan for chronicling assistance Steve also got the official list of items in the auction:

Also at the reception, Steve met Semblina Ulbrinter, teenage daughter of a noble family. She asked if it was true that Arrikes Jhanczil was using a poweful magic item to take over people and eventually take over Waterdeep and that the Lords of Waterdeep had hired AFAL to kill him. Steve denied this. Henkles met Gulvre Burntstar of Persons of Interest who wore the bracers to match Silver Strike and knew Morgath from her days in Silverymoon. She mentioned that Mrap-M'rap used to adventure with Morgath before the Time of Troubles. Maanamere was handed a note by a server that "a young man asked us to give to you".
Just before they headed upstairs, Steve saw four ogres attacking through the eyes of the gargoyle that the party had left guarding the smoke powder smuggler's area. He quickly dismissed it. During the interview, Rinnal Rilarnal of The Manticore Riders approached Henkles to ask about Silver Strike. She made it plain that she had heard of Balthazar when she named it to trigger the thunderclap. During the auction, a young man (13-15?) in elegant but ill-fitting clothes was seen to be looking nervously at Maanamere. Steve developed a headache. When lot 4071 (Amulet of Turning Resistance) came up, he bid on it, but didn't get it. About halfway through the auction a cargo door that opened two stories above the street into the third (balcony) floor, opened up and two apparent Lords of Waterdeep drifted in. They floated over to the balcony (in the area where AFAL was standing), drifted over the heads of those there and down to the podium area. Once there they announced that lots 3046 and 3047 (Rods of Rulership and Terror) would each be selling for 20,000gp to the Lords of Waterdeep and bidding on those items was closed. When they arrived Maanamere checked on the young man in the audience and he didn't appear as nervous as when he was looking at Maanamere. The Lords departed the way they came, drifting over the heads of AFAL. Semblina Ulbrinter was seen giving Steve some very suspicious looks. Shortly afterwards it was noticed that the young man had left. Steve, on behalf of AFAL, bid on several items. He succeeded in purchasing 6 +3 sheaf arrows for 2000gp, a Nose Ring of Load Easement for 2700gp and an Eversmoking Bottle for 1800gp. After the auction, the chairs were cleared and tables were set up for purchases to be completed in the middle of the audience area. The party realized that the audience area was a null-magic zone (hence Steve's headache). Several people who had bid on some of the leather armor, Oil of Slipperiness and the Eversmoking Bottle seemed to be interested in following Steve, but when the party got outside, the well-dressed young man was there with the City Watch to accuse Maanamere of being in league with "the witch" who charmed him. The party tried to explain the Arcturagana situation to the Watch, but they asked to see the note that she had sent Maanamere and were unconvinced. Eventually they let the party go (after getting their names and address) around dusk. Interviews for 1370-04-21: Emas Dadonaradrin Cook hm, N, CHA Remarkable Sent to interview with the mates before the party got back by Gulkker. Shortly after dusk, Gulker announced a lady visitor, who truned out to be Marraba Jhansczil. She had come, in response to Henkles suggestion that they talk at some other time, to negotiate for the purchase of her daggers. She offered 4000gp each for them. While the individual owners were formulating a response, Gulkker walked in and announced another lady visitor, and Arcturagana came rushing into the room behind him! Arcturagana was very agitated and kept repeating "He's here! We have to leave now!". She also freaked out at the site of Denyae and tried not to look at her until Denyae left the room. Occasionally she would look at Maanamere and calm down for a moment, but she kept cycling back to panic mode. Eventually, the party extracted the following information: * "He" was "The General", a powerful vampire executioner who acted as Dread William's enforcer. * According the Arcturagana, The General was an unstoppable monster who could walk in daylight, enslave everyone around him with a thought, and kill just by looking at you. He was also immune to all weapons and magic. * The General could only be in town because Dread William had gotten tired of waiting for Arcturagana to kill Denyae and come home, and had therefor sent the General to kill Arcturagana, Denyae, and anyone associated with her. * Arcturagana had been deliberately avoiding the completion of her mission in order to avoid returning and further weaken Dread William's control over her. * She felt strongly that it was time for AFAL to head out to the Star Chaser with her and flee the city, or (as someone suggested), head into Undermountain together and flee to Myth Drannor. In the mean time, Ag, who had "decided to step outside for some fresh air" discovered that there were six child vampires in the yard, two of them trapped in a sphere of force, and Gorask was missing and presumed gaseous. Ag decided to hang out in his bedroom. The party eventually calmed Arcturagana down and, bizarrely, convinced her to sleep in the cellar for the day so that they could all decide what to do the next night (probably take her to Myth Drannor). They then concluded their business with Marraba J. (whom Maanamere introduced to Arcturagana as his girlfriend and she strenuously denied). The daggers were sold for 5000gp each (a 10,000gp letter of credit from "The Noble Bank of Waterdeep" and 5 1000gp rubies). Marraba collected her daggers and got assurance of safe passage from Arcturagana and left. Maanamere was very nice and walked her to the door. Around that time, the four vampires who had helped Gorask in the past showed up. They started dusting the kids and Arcturagana dismissed them all. Two of Staros's vampires left in pursuit. The party invited the other two in and they demanded to know what Arcturagana was doing inside. The party started to explain but only got as far as "She says The General is in town" before they left. The party left Arcturagana to sleep in the cellar for the night.
