OAKLAND, CA, November

DoubleTwist, Inc.
(previously called Pangea Systems®) and AlphaGene, Inc. today announced an
e-commerce partnership making 50,000 potentially novel genes available to
every life scientist. The collaboration provides researchers with access
to AlphaGene's proprietary cDNA sequence data through DoubleTwist.com,
DoubleTwist's Internet portal for on-line genetic research. A DoubleTwist user
researching a partial-length DNA sequence will automatically receive
notification when a corresponding full-length cDNA exists in AlphaGene's
database. AlphaGene will give the DoubleTwist user an opportunity to
license or purchase the clone.
As a result of the AlphaGene
partnership, DoubleTwist users will save time and money with the ability
to immediately access and license full-length clones from AlphaGene's
extensive libraries. DoubleTwist users will also gain the potential to
discover novel genes from known EST's (expressed sequence tags) through
access to AlphaGene's proprietary database.
"DoubleTwist users will
greatly benefit from the ability to easily access AlphaGene's significant
sequence data, including over 50,000 potentially novel genes," said
John Couch, chief executive officer of DoubleTwist, Inc.. "Through
relationships like this one, DoubleTwist is continuing to enable life
scientists to simplify and accelerate on-line genetic research."
Ideal
gene inventory display
"We are excited about
this new channel for distributing our proprietary sequence data directly
to researchers worldwide," said Donald McCarren, Ph.D., chief
executive officer of AlphaGene. "We think DoubleTwist is an ideal
mechanism for displaying AlphaGene's large gene inventory to the life
science research community."
DoubleTwist is a leading-edge
web portal integrating powerful and sophisticated research tools and data
through an easy-to-use interface accessible to any life scientist
interested in genetic research. The site uses automated search agents to
seek out and interpret data based on the user's scientific questions,
increasing the efficiency of conducting research and accelerating the gene
discovery process. DoubleTwist is currently being validated at Stanford
University and is scheduled for general commercial launch by January 2000.
DoubleTwist, Inc. is a leading provider of software and
