Henkles went to the watch and eventually ended up talking to
Marthraren Urmbrusk, the Magistrate, about the incident. He was
carefully vague about the nature of the item in question. The
party posted a reward of 1000gp "plus Ursula" for the capture of
Rabairnil. He agreed that AFAL would go to watch the drop point
with an escort unit from the City Watch.
The party decided to save the last of the healing herbs and let
Cassie recover with Dexter's care alone.
Stewart picked up his completed padlock at The Golden Key Shop and
used it to lock the wine cellar door. He gave one key to
Gulkker.
Most people went over to the City of the Dead and after much
searching found the grave of Mirin Bloodbrand in a releatively
open section of the cemetary with no large tombs within a few
hundred yards, just gravestones and the occasional tree. A few
others went to the market and bought a set of windchimes similar
to the Chimes of Dusk (5gp from Party Treasure), into which they
shoved a firetrapped pillbox (which they warned the Watch about).
They put the chimes in a sack along with a mouse with some spell
Mike made up cast on it.
That evening, the party gathered in the area of the grave. Steve
and Narthan both had Invisibility and Kiss of
Strength cast on them and were hidden close to the grave.
Narthan had also cast Protection from Fire on himself
earlier. Stewart and Denyae were stationed on top of one of the
nearest tombs. Everyone else (including Gomsha and the Watch) hid
behind tombs.
At the specified time, Henkles and Ursula took the bag to the urn
beside Bloodbrand's grave and put it in. Then they hid behind
gravestones about 100 ft. away. They waited as it got darker and
then were suddenly attacked by 4 bugbear skeletons that had
apparently been hiding in trees nearby the whole time. Like the
skeletons that had attacked the party in Silverymoon and near the
Tower of Loss, these skeletons had been coated with a gray
substance and iron plates had been bolted to their bones to
strengthen them. Ursula ran away while Henkles stayed to hold
them off.
Realizing that infravision was useless anyway, Stewart slung a
light button over to the urn so that Denyae could watch it. In
the mean time Narthan joined the melee and Darius cast Magic
Missile on one of the skeletons. Unfortunately, his spell
went awry and he ended up surrounding the combatants with a
circular Wall of Fire. This caused some damage to Henkles,
but Narthan, protected by his spell, made use of the flames and
dragged grappled skeletons back and forth through them for maximum
damage. Afterwards, the Watch explained to Darius that he would
be paying for the landscape damage (75gp, paid). The party
declined to cover that from party treasure.
1200xp to Darius, Denyae, Dexter, Henkles, Narthan, Steve,
Stewart, Ursula and 4 members of the City Watch
for enhanced bugbear skeletons
The party kept up a watch on the urn, but nothing else happened
that night.
