The latest news running around:
Waterdeep -- Three draft horses were injured early today, a delivery cart destroyed, and the display window of Aumra's Fine Potteryworks (on west-side Sul north of Zarimtar) demolished by a flying cart-wheel, when an illegal race ended in disaster.
Two men are in Watch custody, but no names have been released pending further investigation. There's talk that the guilty fled, and those arrested were drunks betting on the race, not participants.
The long, straight north-south streets in Sea and North Wards have for years hosted various pell-mell races and chases. Sul Street in particular seems a favored site for so-called "chariot challenges." These are cart or carriage races wherein citizens -- usually young apprentices finished with their deliveries but still in possession of small open carts belonging to their masters -- dash in pairs, almost always from north to south, to an agreed-upon endpoint. Local residents often complain about noisy cartwheels, hooves, and shouts or oaths, but some say the loudest complainers are those who bet on losing racers. Impromptu betting is the norm at such races.
Darius buys the Shirt of Tackiness and Ring of Fire Resistance
from party (5Kgp each). Henkles buys Arcturagana's Ring of
Telekinesis from party (10Kgp). Denyae buys Bracers of Initiative
from party (10Kgp). Staric is temporarily assigned the Ring of
Magic Missiles, the Wand of Hurting, and Arcturagana's Ring of
Protection (all still party items). Tristan is assigned the Wand
of Small Fires (party). Brogan is assigned the Ring of Protection
from the smoke powder smuggler Gulmon.
Steve may have purchased the Boots of Levitation from party
(15Kgp).
The party spends most of the day travelling between banks to get
letters of credit exchanged. Various exchanges of cash are
handled. Both Jan and Theo are given letters of credit for their
shares of the money from the auction.
The party heads back to Fair Winds at dusk. As they approach the
house, there is a scream and they see a well-dressed young woman
come running towards them with two child vampires in pursuit.
Henkles and others charge. Brogan casts Invisibility to
Undead on the girl to protect her and the party turns the two
child vampires to mist. Henkles has a nervous moment when he gets
level drained by one of the vampires, but Darius, watching from a
window, is able to undo the damage with an Alternate
Reality spell. Steve summons a gargoyle to pursue the mist.
(Eventually it loses them in the sewer pipes, as usual.)
The girl turns out to be Semblina Ulbrinter, the noble daughter
who Steve met at the auction. The party heads in to the house
with her.
On the way in, Dexter checks the mirror and realizes that Semblina
has no reflection. Unfortunately, Henkles is already charmed and
invites her in anyway. Inside, Dexter loudly announces Semblina's
condition and she lunges for him. A short fight ensues and ends
with Dexter delivering the final blow with Perditor Mortua, which
means Semblina is destroyed instead of turned to mist.
Unfortunately, Staric has 1 round left on his Aganazar's
Scorcher spell, so the wall begins to burn. Tristan uses the
Fire Telekinesis ability of the Wand of Small Fires to stop
the damage.
250xp to Dexter for maintaining caution after Arcturagana was gone
8000xp to Brogan, Denyae, Dexter, Henkles, Maanamere, Staric, Steve,
and Tristan for a vampire kill
During the fight, Denyae determined that her new bracers were not
actually Bracers of Initiative and she returned them to the party
afterwards.
Tristan put 2 charges into the Ring of Missiles.
